Solar Systems
At the end of the project’s implementation the introduction of solar systems became a key issue. Prior experiences in Nepal proved that solar systems to illuminate community halls, rooms of cooperatives and schools are the best way to promote affordable solar power for individual use at home. The energy produced by small solar panels is mainly used for charging mobile phones, radios and illumination. This low level appliances also create awareness how especially young people can benefit from green energy.
In 2015 the team in Mozambique established a solar component within the project. The provision of solar illumination systems has developed quickly and now reaches 208 beneficiaries in eight communities. Three quarters of the beneficiaries are women – one success story describes this component.
The positive experiences in the provision of renewable energy solutions was taken up by Jugend Eine Welt in a subsequent project in Ethiopia. Starting from 2016 onwards technicians in 4 Don Bosco Vocational Trainings Centers will be trained in applied photovoltaic solutions for rural areas.
